00:00:00

Greetings from cyberdelic space, this is Lorenzo and I’m your host here in the psychedelic

00:00:22

salon.

00:00:23

And I figured out that it’s about time to give you a little update about what’s been going on with the Salon this past month.

00:00:31

In fact, I guess that I should begin this podcast like I was taught as a boy in Catholic school.

00:00:38

And since I know that there are a lot of fellow Saloners here who also went through those days of mental child abuse.

00:00:45

You’ll remember saying something like, it has been one week since my last confession.

00:00:51

Of course, today I’d have to say that it’s been over 50 years since my last confession,

00:00:55

but I digress. It’s only been five weeks since my last podcast. However, as many of you already

00:01:03

know, for the first two months of the lockdown here

00:01:06

in California, I was hosting four live salons every week. We’re down to two a week now,

00:01:12

however, and while I send an email announcement with that day’s Zoom link to each of my supporters

00:01:18

on Patreon, well, during the pandemic, I’m also posting that information on the Psychedelic

00:01:24

Salon’s Discord server,

00:01:25

where there are already hundreds of the others getting to know one another.

00:01:30

And I’ll tell you all about that and a few other things that are going on here in the salon,

00:01:35

but first I want to thank those fellow saloners who have been so generous in their support for these podcasts.

00:01:41

First of all, even though a few dollars a month may not seem like much,

00:01:45

collectively, the 400 core members of the salon who contribute through Patreon each month have,

00:01:52

well, have essentially become my financial backbone. And while some of them have had to

00:01:57

drop out due to their own financial distress from losing their jobs and other things,

00:02:01

other people have stepped in and filled the gap. So a huge thanks

00:02:05

to all of you. Also, there are some fellow slaughters who have made direct donations

00:02:10

through PayPal and who have been with me for many years now. In particular, I’d like to thank

00:02:16

Thomas and Christine from Southern California and from even farther south, all the way from

00:02:22

down under, in fact, I want to thank KD. And between them,

00:02:27

they have covered all of our hosting and other podcasting expenses for the next four months.

00:02:32

You Saloners are all the greatest. I really appreciate your help.

00:02:36

So now, here are a couple things that we’ve already gotten underway since the pandemic has

00:02:41

started. I’ll begin with the Salon’s Discord server, and if you aren’t

00:02:46

already familiar with Discord, just ask one of your gamer friends. Discord is a well-established

00:02:53

part of their community, and two months that we’ve been online there, well, almost 500 fellow

00:02:58

salonners have joined us. And did I mention that it’s free? No credit card required. In addition to login links for the live salons on Discord,

00:03:07

you’ll also find links to many more online psychedelic seminars and interviews

00:03:13

probably than you have time for, even if you’re staying home right now.

00:03:17

There’s simply been a deluge of live streams for the psychedelic community,

00:03:22

and you’ll find the link connecting you with our Discord server near the top of our homepage

00:03:27

at psychedelicsalon.com.

00:03:30

I may even be podcasting some of the live salons that I host each week.

00:03:35

On Mondays, the live salon takes place at 6.30 p.m. Pacific Time.

00:03:40

And on Thursday, the live salon takes place at 6.30 p.m. London time, which is 10.30 in the morning on the Pacific coast.

00:03:48

And this week’s Thursday live salon will feature our first attempt at organizing a book club.

00:03:54

After we announced it last week on our Discord server, the topic really took off,

00:03:59

and the first book selected for our discussion will be Daniel Quinn’s brilliant book, Ishmael.

00:04:05

selected for our discussion will be Daniel Quinn’s brilliant book, Ishmael. Over time,

00:04:11

as the book club evolves, I expect that some of those discussions will also become podcasts.

00:04:16

Other topics that we’ll be covering in Live Salons that will later be streamed here as a regular podcast include a discussion about cryptocurrencies, and we’ll also be talking

00:04:22

with a fellow salonner about how he lived as a homeless

00:04:25

person for six years after leaving military service, and I suspect that his tips and tricks

00:04:31

may come in handy for more people than we like to think about. Another thing that you may want

00:04:37

to know about comes from Dan Casciato, who wanted to remind me to let you know that our friends at

00:04:43

MAPS are looking for quality people to fill many of their needs right now.

00:04:47

So if you’re thinking about what you want to do next in this new life that’s unfolding,

00:04:52

why don’t you surf over to the MAPS career page at maps.org slash participate slash careers.

00:05:00

And I’ll link to that in today’s program notes notes which you’ll find at psychedelicsalon.com

00:05:05

there are a lot of wonderful people

00:05:07

both employees and volunteers

00:05:09

who are involved in one or more projects at MAPS

00:05:11

and if you have any inclination at all

00:05:14

to look into a career change right now

00:05:16

well you should at least take a look

00:05:18

at what MAPS has to offer

00:05:19

and if you’re still longing

00:05:22

for a little taste of the old normal

00:05:24

in a few days I’ll be posting the next installment of Cat Lakey’s podcast series that features readings from Leonard Picard’s book, The Rose of Paracelsus.

00:05:34

And this particular reading features Brother David Stendhal-Rost reading Chapter 2, and in Leonard’s introduction to this reading, he also passes along a personal message to you

00:05:45

from Brother David

00:05:46

about the days that we are now moving through.

00:05:50

Until then, this is Lorenzo

00:05:52

signing off from Cyberdelic Space.

00:05:55

Namaste, my friends. Thank you.
