The DopeTribePodcasting Pioneers

Today’s podcast, which is being released on 4, 20, 2020, is dedicated to and in tribute to our dear friend Queerninja, who departed this little planet earlier in the year. The Ninja was one of the early pioneers of podcasting, and he hosted one of the first music podcasts on the Internet. It was called “The Sounds of World Wide Weed”, and today’s podcast features a replay of the final program in that podcast series. To lighten the mood a bit, today’s podcast ends with Ron Shock’s “Best Damn Dope Story Ever.”

00:00:00

Greetings from cyberdelic space.

00:00:19

This is Lorenzo, and I’m your host here in the Psychedelic Salon.

00:00:24

And, happy 420!

00:00:27

Although, for most of the world, except for here on the West Coast, Hawaii and Alaska, I guess,

00:00:33

420 day is already over.

00:00:35

So, I thought that we should do something to end the day by boosting our immune systems a little bit.

00:00:42

And as you know, two of the best treatments for boosting our immune

00:00:45

systems are music and laughter. And like many of our fellow salonners who have listened to some of

00:00:52

the early programs from here in the salon, whenever I think of music, laughter, and cannabis, well,

00:00:58

the first person who comes to my mind is Queer Ninja. Without a doubt, he was one of the happiest stoners ever to grace this planet.

00:01:07

Two days ago, a few of the ninja’s friends gathered online to record our tributes to him,

00:01:13

and a recording of that conversation is now available online on the Dope Fiend’s website

00:01:18

under the title, A Tribute to Queer Ninja, Dope Fiend Quarantined 005.

00:01:26

And I’ll link to it in today’s program notes, which you’ll find at psychedelicsalon.com.

00:01:31

I also should add that we most definitely practiced safe distancing during our conversation,

00:01:38

because we were spread out over four continents.

00:01:41

I should also add that we began our 420 celebrations a bit early,

00:01:47

as you’ll hear in the podcast, Dope Fiends podcast. Now, if you have listened to some of

00:01:53

my early podcasts from the salon, you’ll remember me talking with and interacting with a wide cast

00:02:00

of characters from other podcasts. My introduction to these interesting people initially came through

00:02:06

KMO, who was also with us yesterday, and I owe him a big thank you because without this cast of

00:02:12

characters early on, these podcasts from the salon most likely, well, they might have faded away.

00:02:19

But I simply couldn’t wait each week to get my podcast out and then listen to KMO and

00:02:24

all of the podcasts that Dope Fiend produced on his Cannabis Podcast Network. I simply couldn’t wait each week to get my podcast out and then listen to KMO and all

00:02:25

of the podcasts that Dope Thien produced on his Cannabis Podcast Network.

00:02:30

In today’s program notes, I’ve posted a screenshot from that get-together.

00:02:35

A few of our friends had already left when I took the screenshot, but participants in

00:02:39

our two-hour smoking, vaping, and talking session included the Toker, Bebe, whose silken voice you hear in the salon each week after our featured speaker,

00:02:51

Terekite Toker and Hudson Rules, Son of Gonzo, the Bagginses and Psychonaut,

00:02:57

KMO, of course, Uncle Weed, SEB, and the Gremlin of Ganja.

00:03:02

Not to mention Sancho and Cody and Nexus, Teenage Pie, Mrs. Mole

00:03:08

and Scooby Snacks. Never before have so many old-time Dope Tribers been gathered together in

00:03:15

one virtual room to discuss their history, their shared adventures, and what Queer Ninja meant to

00:03:22

us all. It was a wonderful experience for me,

00:03:25

and if you decide to listen to the Dope Fiends podcast of our conversation,

00:03:29

well, just be sure to have a joint handy so you don’t feel left out.

00:03:34

By the way, I don’t know this for sure,

00:03:37

but my guess is that the people on that call were responsible for,

00:03:41

well, probably at least half of all the podcasts about marijuana and psychedelics

00:03:45

during the first several years of podcasting.

00:03:48

They are the true pioneers of podcasting in the worldwide cannabis community, at least in my opinion.

00:03:55

So, now it’s time for the Salon’s tribute to Queer Ninja.

00:03:59

And I can think of no better way to show you what a great podcast he hosted

00:04:03

than to play one of his programs for you right now.

00:04:07

In fact, I’ve been planning on doing this for over a month,

00:04:11

but in my usual fashion,

00:04:12

well, I wasn’t going to ask for permission to use it until after I’d already done so.

00:04:18

You know, that’s one of a lawyer’s best strategies.

00:04:20

It’s always easier to beg forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

00:04:26

But then when I was in our dope tribes conference well it dawned on me that I should probably just ask the dope

00:04:32

fiend then and he granted permission I should add now before I start playing the ninjas podcast

00:04:38

I should explain how an old straight white man in America became good friends with a gay, young black man in the UK.

00:04:47

Well, it was through his podcast, of course.

00:04:50

You see, after one of his first shows,

00:04:52

I wrote and I asked him to play a song from Bronski Beat’s album,

00:04:56

The Age of Consent.

00:04:57

And that request was the beginning of our friendship.

00:05:01

You see, during a long and very wild weekend in Los Angeles, some friends and I

00:05:07

walked into Tower Records on Sunset Strip, and we were looking to buy a copy of Phil Collins’ new

00:05:12

album. But when we walked in, Bronski Beat was playing on the store’s sound system, and well,

00:05:18

like a baby goose to a basketball, that Bronski Beat sound imprinted a wonderful memory on me.

00:05:24

What I didn’t know at the

00:05:25

time was that the album was aimed primarily at the gay community. And this began a many long

00:05:33

year discussion between the ninja and myself about the way that music intended for one audience

00:05:38

can evoke similar emotions in completely different audiences. I could probably go on about some of the other things

00:05:45

we learned about each other and about ourselves during those conversations, but right now we have

00:05:51

better things to do. Although the ninja and I drifted apart after some intense conversations

00:05:56

during the Occupy movement, we still would ping one another from time to time just to say hi.

00:06:02

So I hate to admit it, but my first thought when I learned of the

00:06:06

ninja’s death was, well, it was to hope that his death wasn’t from a drug-related accident of some

00:06:11

kind. Just like you’re going to probably think about me when I die. It won’t be, and it wasn’t

00:06:18

for the ninja either. In fact, he had been on a complete cleanse, even from the prescription drugs he was using to fight the painful multi-year infection that was caused by, of all things, a splinter that he got while recording a podcast.

00:06:34

And you can still hear him talk about it in some of his old programs.

00:06:38

Well, earlier this year, one night he went to sleep and, I’m told, was in really good spirits.

00:06:45

this year, one night he went to sleep and I’m told was in really good spirits, believing that the surgery he was about to undergo in a week or so would finally relieve some of his pain. But he

00:06:52

died in his sleep. In fact, he maybe didn’t even wake up at the time. Now this may sound a bit

00:06:58

macabre, but I’m down to the last five things on my bucket list and dying in my sleep is number one.

00:07:05

down to the last five things on my bucket list, and dying in my sleep is number one. Hopefully,

00:07:10

I won’t even know that I’ve finished my list. Of course, the other four things on that list are going to take at least a decade or more, so, well, you’re still stuck with me for a while.

00:07:15

That’s my plan, at least. But enough of this dark talk. Hey, it’s still 420 where I am. In fact,

00:07:22

it’s 420-2020, and out here on the edge of the West, I’m going to be

00:07:26

toking the lights out for you on this day, along with some music and laughter. In a moment, I’m

00:07:32

going to play Queer Ninja’s last, well, almost last, Sounds of Worldwide Weed podcast. And after

00:07:40

that, I’m going to follow with what is, at least in my opinion, the best damn dope story ever told.

00:07:46

Music and laughter, my friends. Music and laughter. We can’t go wrong with them.

00:07:52

And now, here’s the one and only Queer Ninja and the sounds of World Wide Weed.

00:08:02

World Wide Weed. Queer Ninja.

00:08:49

We’re Ninja Hunter. easy man this is Easy, man. This is Queer Ninja.

00:08:54

And you are listening to the sounds of World Wide Weed.

00:08:58

And we’re together for one last blast of this show, guys.

00:09:02

This is the end of the line in terms of the sounds of World Wide Weed. And it’s very tempting.

00:09:04

I started to

00:09:05

record this show last night, and I was really, really kind of tempted to make it, like, I

00:09:09

was feeling sad, and you know, it’s kind of like a separation, and you know, it feels

00:09:14

like, you know, the end of the end, but I want to get this across right away, and first,

00:09:19

straight off the bat, that basically, this is not the end of Queer Ninja, this is just

00:09:24

the end, for now, of the sounds of World Wide Weed. I’m still going to be around here, man. You’re

00:09:29

not going to get rid of me that easily. So this is the last episode of the Sounds of

00:09:35

Worldwide Weed, but I’ve got plans to kind of blast through the light waves and enrich

00:09:40

your eardrums with some kind of mad queer ninja that’s coming in the future.

00:09:47

And we’re going to talk about that a bit later on.

00:09:50

We’ve got DJ nights going to come up, and I’m going to put those out about once a month or so.

00:09:55

More news of that to come.

00:09:57

But guys, let’s get this kicked off straight away with some really, really uplifting Stevie Wonder, man.

00:10:02

This is Uptide. Everything’s all right. Thank you. Out of sight From a poor man’s house From across the railroad track

00:10:45

Only shirt I own

00:10:47

This ring on my back

00:10:49

But I’m the envy of every single guy

00:10:52

Since I’m the apple of my girl’s eye

00:10:56

We go on stepping on the town for a while

00:10:59

My money’s going my so-so style

00:11:03

But it’s alright With my clothes aren’t blue

00:11:07

On the side, because my heart is true

00:11:10

She said, baby, everything is alright

00:11:14

Upside, on the side

00:11:17

Baby, everything is alright

00:11:21

Upside, Clean on the door She’s a pearl of a girl

00:11:40

I guess that’s what you might say

00:11:42

I guess those folks brought her up that way

00:11:45

The right side of track, she wasn’t born in vain

00:11:49

In a great big old house full of brothers and sisters

00:11:53

No one is better than I

00:11:56

I know I’m just an average guy

00:12:00

No football hero or smooth-on-gun

00:12:03

Got empty pockets, you see, I’m a poor man’s son

00:12:07

Can’t give her the things that money can buy

00:12:10

But I never, never, never make my baby cry

00:12:14

And it’s all right, but I can’t do

00:12:18

Out of sight, because my heart is true

00:12:21

She says, baby, everything is all right.

00:12:25

Uptight, clean on the side, baby, everything is all right.

00:12:32

Uptight, clean on the side, baby, everything is all right.

00:12:40

Uptight, baby, everything is alright.

00:12:47

Up tight, baby, everything is alright.

00:12:54

Up tight, clean, honest, well done.

00:12:57

Well, I hope that you’re feeling the groove, man.

00:13:00

And I hope that you’re happy.

00:13:01

And I hope everything is blessed in your world.

00:13:04

Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, I hope that you’re having a good time.

00:13:07

And if you’re not, then you’ve got to take some measures to make things better for yourself, man.

00:13:12

So all my love going out to all of these fabulous listeners that have been with me at various different points.

00:13:18

They joined, you know, the Dope Fiend crew at different points in the history of this fantastic network.

00:13:24

But I want to share as much love as possible.

00:13:26

And first off, I’ve got a couple of people I want to say a big thank you to, man,

00:13:30

really for encouraging and, you know, giving love and support.

00:13:35

And the first of those people has got to be Potters.

00:13:38

Potters, thanks a lot, man.

00:13:40

You’ve been with me right from the start.

00:13:41

You sent me my very first email,

00:13:43

and I think that you left the very first comment for one of my shows.

00:13:47

So much love to you.

00:13:50

Much love to Mr. and Ms. Wink.

00:13:52

Big love going out to you guys in the desert, man.

00:13:55

Really, really appreciate everything.

00:13:57

All the love and support that you guys have shared with me over the months.

00:14:00

And actually, it’s bloody years now.

00:14:04

So, you know, props where props is due, guys.

00:14:07

Much love to you guys.

00:14:08

Much love to Pothead, actually.

00:14:10

Pothead, really, you kind of blasted onto the scene.

00:14:13

You’ve done lots of great work on the forums.

00:14:16

You’ve got loads of people together

00:14:18

and encouraged them to join up in the chats

00:14:20

for the smokeout sessions that we’re doing

00:14:22

and they’re pretty much happening

00:14:23

pretty much right the way through the week, guys.

00:14:26

If you have Skype, you can literally hook up with Admin, username QueerNinja, or Potted420420.

00:14:34

I know that he will mind that, and he can talk you into how to join the chat room, smokeouts,

00:14:39

and stuff, and that’s a great place to get some giggles and some smoking fun.

00:14:45

Really loving that.

00:14:47

Alright, listen.

00:14:48

For this show, you know what I’m like, right?

00:14:52

I have an idea about what I’m going to do and then I start doing the show and it all goes a bit different.

00:14:59

So that’s my stoned prerogative.

00:15:03

Guys, I often get asked by people, like, where is it?

00:15:06

How do I find music?

00:15:08

And, you know, what kind of inspiration in music do I have and stuff?

00:15:13

And it’s really hard to try to think about where you first kind of picked up a style of music

00:15:18

or a sound of music that you like.

00:15:20

And I was sitting there, like a couple of days ago,

00:15:23

I was sitting trying to think about where is it I draw inspiration from?

00:15:27

What music do I like and how do I find it and stuff?

00:15:30

And I kind of figured that it’s got its roots

00:15:32

in the music that you listen to through the years.

00:15:37

So in saying that, what I’m going to do today

00:15:40

is to share with you some of the tunes

00:15:43

that have been with me pretty much throughout

00:15:45

my life and throughout the years.

00:15:49

My favorite song is…

00:15:52

I’m not going to play it because it’s really silly.

00:15:55

But my favorite song of all time is a track called The Tourney Fish by Sultans of Ping

00:16:00

and Psy.

00:16:02

I’m not going to play that.

00:16:03

It’s not a great song.

00:16:04

I just love it.

00:16:05

I don’t know. It just makes me smile every time

00:16:08

I listen to it. It’s ridiculous.

00:16:10

But this track is my favorite,

00:16:12

second favorite track of all time.

00:16:14

It was a

00:16:15

cover version of a track called

00:16:17

Suzanne, written by

00:16:20

a chap called Leonard Cohen.

00:16:21

But this is a version that Nina Simone did.

00:16:24

And Nina Simone,

00:16:30

man, honestly, she pulls my heartstrings, I just adore her sound, beautiful, beautiful singer, incredible way of taking a song and just making it her own, and this one is very

00:16:37

special to me, guys, check it out, this is Suzanne by Nina Simone. Go by, you can spend the night forever And you know that she’s half crazy

00:17:09

And that’s why you want to be there

00:17:12

And she feeds you tea and oranges

00:17:17

That come all the way from China

00:17:21

And just when you mean to tell her

00:17:26

that you have no love

00:17:28

to give her

00:17:29

she gets you on her wavelength

00:17:32

and she lets

00:17:34

the river answer

00:17:36

that you’ve always

00:17:39

been her lover

00:17:40

and you want to travel with her

00:17:49

And you want to travel blind

00:17:54

And you know that she will trust you

00:17:58

For you touched her perfect body

00:18:01

With your mind

00:18:04

Yeah I watched her perfect body with your mind, yeah.

00:18:10

Now Jesus was a sailor when he walked upon the water.

00:18:18

And he spent a long time watching From his lonely wooden tower

00:18:26

And when he knew for certain

00:18:31

Only drowning men could see him

00:18:35

He said all men will be sailors then

00:18:39

Until the sea shall free them

00:18:43

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

00:18:44

But he himself was broken

00:18:46

Long before the sky would open

00:18:51

The sinking, almost human

00:18:55

He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone And you won’t travel with him

00:19:10

And you won’t travel blind

00:19:15

Cause you think maybe you can trust him

00:19:19

Cause he’s touched your perfect body with his mind.

00:19:30

Now, Suzanne, take your hand and she’ll lead you to the river.

00:19:39

She’s wearing rags and feathers from Salvation Army counters.

00:19:47

And the sun pours down like honey on our Lady of the Harbor.

00:19:55

And she shows you where to look between the garbage and the flowers.

00:20:10

the garbage and the flowers there are heroes in the seaweed there are children in the morning they are leaning leaning out for love and they will lean that way forever while suzanne holds While Suzanne holds the mirror And you want to travel with her

00:20:31

And you want to travel blind

00:20:35

Cause you think maybe you can trust her

00:20:40

She’s touched your perfect body with her mind

00:20:46

Beautiful, absolutely adoring Nina Simone

00:20:57

And I really love that track

00:20:59

And this next track is not very old actually

00:21:02

But it’s one of those tracks that I listen to,

00:21:05

and regardless, really, of how I’m kind of feeling,

00:21:08

it just makes me happy inside.

00:21:09

Not really excited or buzzy.

00:21:12

Just kind of happy.

00:21:13

This is a track called Wild Honey.

00:21:14

And this is by U2.

00:21:16

U2. In the days

00:21:26

When we were swinging from the trees

00:21:30

I was a monkey

00:21:32

Stealing honey from a swarm of bees

00:21:37

I could taste

00:21:41

I could taste you even then

00:21:45

And I would chase you down to the wind

00:21:52

You could go there if you please

00:21:59

Wild honey

00:22:01

And if you go there, go with me.

00:22:07

Wild money.

00:22:16

Did I know you?

00:22:20

Did I know you even then?

00:22:24

Before the clocks kept time

00:22:27

Before the world was made

00:22:31

From the cruel sun

00:22:38

You were shelter

00:22:41

You were my shelter and my shade.

00:22:48

If you go there with me, wild money.

00:22:56

You can do just what you please, wild money.

00:23:01

Please Wild

00:23:02

Money

00:23:02

They’re just

00:23:06

Blowing in the breeze

00:23:08

Wild

00:23:09

Money

00:23:10

Wild

00:23:13

Wild

00:23:15

Money

00:23:16

I’m still standing

00:23:28

I’m still standing where you left me

00:23:33

Are you still growing wild?

00:23:37

Will everything take around you?

00:23:41

Send you flowers

00:23:45

Good flowers for your heart

00:23:48

I know your garden is full

00:23:52

But is there sweetness at all?

00:23:58

What is love?

00:24:03

I love you so.

00:24:10

Love me if you miss me so.

00:24:17

If you go, then go with me.

00:24:19

Wild honey.

00:24:23

Won’t you take me?

00:24:25

Take me, me please Wild honey

00:24:27

Yeah, swinging through the trees

00:24:33

Wild honey

00:24:35

Wild, wild

00:24:39

Woo Time to share this couple of emails guys

00:25:00

Much love to everyone who sent emails in for this last show

00:25:03

00:25:22

been listening to the sounds of worldwide weed since episode 15.

00:25:26

I’ve enjoyed your show every time I light myself a big bowl of our favorite herb

00:25:31

and chill out to your podcast.

00:25:34

Thanks a lot, Brandy.

00:25:35

It’s great to have you along,

00:25:36

and I really appreciate all the tracks that you sent along, actually.

00:25:39

I’m loving the Reefer Man track that you sent from the…

00:25:43

I can’t remember the name of the people.

00:25:45

It’s gone, but…

00:25:47

It’s a lovely cover version of that track.

00:25:49

I’m loving it.

00:25:51

Anyways, he says,

00:25:52

The music has always been fucking rocking

00:25:54

and your DJing has been so relaxing and fun.

00:25:58

I think all of us listeners to the sounds of Worldwide

00:26:02

will deeply miss your absence,

00:26:04

but we definitely understand this decision.

00:26:06

Thanks a lot, Vanu.

00:26:07

And yeah, it was a really hard decision, actually.

00:26:10

But really, it feels like the right thing to do.

00:26:12

I need to get time to sort some stuff out in my life and to kind of build, you know, kind of a new direction.

00:26:19

And the time it’s taking to do that really is colossal.

00:26:22

I’m good.

00:26:24

The weekends are my chill out time

00:26:25

but it’s it takes a long time putting these shows together man and you know it kind of

00:26:30

kind of wears you out a little bit i know don’t fit don’t fit was talking about that and

00:26:34

uh zendo’s most recent podcast as well i know those guys are feeling the pressure too it’s a

00:26:39

labor of love but it is a labor so so I’ve got the midwives in here at the moment.

00:26:49

They’re kind of easing the birth of this show today.

00:26:53

Anyways, he says, just update us on anything going on with you in the future.

00:26:58

And as always, keep on smoking or vaporizing the sweet herb.

00:27:03

No problem.

00:27:04

He says, for your last show just really

it’s called super fly and it’s time to funk The Darkest of Night

00:27:50

with the moon shining bright

00:27:52

There’s a set going strong

00:27:54

A lot of things going on

00:27:56

The man of the hour

00:27:58

has an air of great power

00:28:00

The dudes have ended him

00:28:02

for so long

00:28:03

Oh, super fly

00:28:06

You’re gonna make your fortune by and by

00:28:10

But if you lose, don’t ask no questions why

00:28:14

The only game you know is do or die

00:28:18

Hard to understand, what a hell of a man

00:28:24

This cat of the slum had a man, wasn’t dumb

00:28:28

But a weakness was shown, cause his hustle was wrong

00:28:32

His mind was his own, but the man lived alone

00:28:36

Oh, see the fly

00:28:38

You’re gonna make your fortune by and by

00:28:42

But if you lose, don’t ask no questions why We’ll be right back. Trying to get over That’s what he’s trying to do

00:29:05

Taking all that he can take

00:29:12

Gambling with the odds of fate

00:29:16

Trying to get over

00:29:18

Trying to get over

00:29:22

Trying to get over Trying to get over

00:29:26

Trying to get over

00:29:30

Superfly

00:29:52

The aim of his rule was to move a lot of people Ask him his dream, what does it mean?

00:29:55

He wouldn’t know

00:29:56

Can’t be like the rest, it’s the most he’ll confess

00:30:00

But the time’s running out and there’s no happiness

00:30:04

Oh, superfly.

00:30:07

You’re gonna make your fortune by

00:30:10

and by. But if

00:30:12

you lose, then there’s no questions

00:30:14

why. The only

00:30:16

game you know is do or

00:30:18

die.

00:30:21

Superfly.

00:30:26

Superfly Superfly Superfly

00:30:30

Superfly

00:30:34

Trying to get over

00:30:38

Trying to get over

00:30:42

Trying to get over. Trying to get over.

00:30:47

Trying to get over.

00:30:51

Trying to get over.

00:30:55

Trying to get over.

00:30:59

Trying to get over.

00:31:03

Trying to get over. Try and make it over Try and make it over

00:31:06

Try and make it over

00:31:10

Oh yes, man, definitely, definitely feeling the Funko now, and I love that track, man.

00:31:19

Alright guys, it’s time for some kind of relaxing tunes.

00:31:23

Tunes that I’ve adored since I was a child really, kind of growing up with this music that my dad used to play for me and stuff.

00:31:30

And I used to raid his collection.

00:31:31

I’ve got a lot of his old vinyl now stored away and there’s some amazing records in there.

00:31:36

And I’m sure that by now some of them are going to be worth some money.

00:31:39

But I’m going to keep a hold of them.

00:31:41

Really beautiful, beautiful music.

00:31:43

And these tracks really kind of come from his inspiration to me.

00:31:49

We’re going to start this with a Marvin Gaye track called What’s Going On.

00:31:53

And we’re going to chill it out a little bit and enjoy a peaceful, peaceful time. Mother, mother

00:32:08

There’s too many of you to cry

00:32:13

Brother, brother, brother

00:32:18

There’s far too many of you to die

00:32:22

You know we’ve got to find a way

00:32:27

to bring some loving here today.

00:32:33

Yeah.

00:32:35

Father, father, we don’t need to escalate.

00:32:43

You see, war is not the answer for all in love and all hate.

00:32:53

You know we’ve got to find a way to bring some love into the day.

00:33:01

Picket lines

00:33:05

And picket signs

00:33:08

Don’t punish me

00:33:10

With brutality

00:33:12

Talk to me

00:33:15

00:33:17

00:33:24

00:36:18

00:36:20

Everybody wants me to be what they want me to be

00:37:12

I’m not happy when I try to fake it

00:37:19

No

00:37:22

That’s why I’m easy

00:37:27

00:43:14

Where must I find my resting place?

00:43:19

Where must I find it?

00:43:21

Where must I find my rest in peace

00:43:26

Over the hills

00:43:29

across the valley

00:43:32

Over the hills

00:43:36

across the valley

00:43:38

I’m sure I can see

00:43:42

I’m sure

00:43:43

I can see Too I’m sure I can see

00:43:45

Too much pollution, too much, too much pollution

00:43:52

I would like to see a broad shady tree

00:44:03

If I can rest my head on it

00:44:06

Cause the sun is so hot

00:44:09

What says the father?

00:44:14

Oh, God

00:44:14

Where must I find my resting place?

00:44:24

Where must I find my resting place?

00:44:35

Over the hills across the valley

00:44:41

I sure I can see I sure I can see

00:44:48

Too much pollution

00:44:51

Too much pollution

00:44:54

I would like to see

00:44:57

A broad shady tree

00:45:00

Cause I can rest my head

00:45:03

My head underneath

00:45:07

Cause the sun is so hot, what says the father?

00:45:14

Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh

00:45:24

Where must I find my resting place?

00:45:30

Where must I find my resting place?

00:45:37

Where must I find my resting, my resting, my little resting?

00:45:43

Where must I find my resting place

00:45:47

Sitting in the morning sun

00:46:01

I’ll be sitting when the evening comes

00:46:06

watching the ships

00:46:09

roll in

00:46:11

and then I’ll watch them roll

00:46:13

away again

00:46:15

yeah I’m sitting

00:46:17

on the dock of the bay

00:46:20

watching the

00:46:21

tide roll

00:46:23

away

00:46:24

I’m just sitting on the dock of the bay

00:46:29

Wasting time

00:46:32

I left my home in Georgia

00:46:38

Headed for the Frisco Bay

00:46:43

Cause I’ve had nothing to live for

00:46:48

and look like nothing’s gonna come my way

00:46:52

so I’m just gonna sit on the dock of the bay

00:46:57

watching the tide roll away

00:47:02

and sitting on the darker bay, wasting time.

00:47:13

Look like nothing’s gonna change.

00:47:18

Everything still remains the same.

00:47:23

I can’t do what ten people tell me to do

00:47:27

So I guess I’ll remain the same

00:47:31

Sitting here resting my bones

00:47:35

And this loneliness won’t leave me alone

00:47:39

This two thousand miles I roam

00:47:44

Just to make this dock my home

00:47:48

Now I’m just gonna sit at the dock of a bay

00:47:53

Watching the tide roll away

00:47:57

Sitting on the dock of a bay

00:48:02

Wasting time Sitting on a darker bed, wasting time.

00:48:31

Just sitting on the dock of a bay, man,

00:48:33

just makes me kind of, always,

00:48:35

just chills me the fuck out.

00:48:35

I love it.

00:48:39

And it’s also one of those tracks that’s literally been around there for years and years

00:48:41

in my collection,

00:48:42

and I just cannot, you know, regardless,

00:48:44

you know, sometimes you have a dreadful accident

00:48:46

and these computers kind of eat your music

00:48:49

and just burp out the most ridiculous hatred

00:48:52

for your collection.

00:48:54

But I’ve always, always tried to keep that one in there

00:48:56

just because it makes me happy and makes me relaxed.

00:49:00

All right, I want to also say a great big thank you

00:49:03

to a dear friend of mine,

00:49:06

and he’s going to remain anonymous, really.

00:49:09

He asked a while ago, actually, he asked me for a track,

00:49:12

anything really, by Bronski Beat.

00:49:15

And I was sitting there, and I was thinking,

00:49:18

yeah, I’ve got a few Bronski Beat tracks, man.

00:49:20

They’re kind of back in the 80s and into the early 90s.

00:49:23

They did some incredible tracks. And Jimmy Somerville, I know that he kind of parted company with the band towards

00:49:30

the 90s, the start of the 90s, and he originally sang this, did the lyrics for this track,

00:49:37

but this is a remix that these guys did in 1994, and it’s a wonderful acoustic version

00:49:43

of a track called Small Town Boy, and really, this is a kind of gay anthem, but it’s a wonderful acoustic version of a track called Small Town Boy. And really,

00:49:46

this is a kind of gay anthem, but it’s one of those really kind of emotional ones for

00:49:53

a lot of gay people. Growing up gay can be difficult for a lot of people for a lot of

00:49:57

reasons, especially if you’re living like kind of out of the city and you still have

00:50:01

to face and put up with this absurd you know kind of prejudice and and

00:50:06

fear that people have well this track is very important to a lot of people including myself

00:50:11

and i hope that you like it haunting track and very beautiful it’s a small town boy and it’s by

00:50:17

bronski beat Thank you. guitar solo You leave in the morning With everything you own

00:51:26

In a little black case

00:51:29

Alone on a platform

00:51:32

The wind and the rain

00:51:34

And the sand

00:51:35

00:51:50

Why you had to leave

00:52:39

Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away.

00:52:47

Run away, turn away, run away, run away, run away Pushed around and kicked around

00:52:54

Always a lonely boy

00:52:56

You were the one they’d talk about

00:53:02

Around town as they put you down.

00:53:06

And as hard as they would try, they’d have to make you cry.

00:53:14

But you never cried to them, just to yourself.

00:53:22

You never cried to them

00:56:07

And a little black case

00:56:10

Alone on a platform with dance rain on the sand

00:56:16

And lonely, lonely me guitar solo Thank you. On the day I went away

00:57:25

Goodbye

00:57:27

Was all I had to say

00:57:33

Now I’m gone

00:57:36

I want to come again and stay

00:57:41

All my life

00:57:44

Smile, and that will mean I’m there

00:57:51

Cause I’ve seen all blue skies

00:58:02

Through the tears

00:58:05

In my eyes

00:58:07

And I realize

00:58:11

I’m going home

00:58:18

I’m going home Everywhere

00:58:34

It’s been the same

00:58:37

Free

00:58:38

Like I’m outside

00:58:43

In the rain

00:58:45

Free to try and find a game

00:58:52

Cards for sorrow

00:58:57

Cards for pain

00:59:01

Cause I’ve seen

00:59:07

Oh

00:59:09

Blue skies

00:59:12

Through the tears

00:59:14

In my eyes

00:59:18

And I realize

00:59:22

I’m going home.

00:59:30

I’m going home.

00:59:39

I’m going home.

00:59:44

I’m going home I’m going home

00:59:55

Small Town Boy by Bronski Beat

01:00:03

and I’ve played, I’ve followed that one

01:00:05

with some wonderful camp melancholy.

01:00:08

This is, that was a track called I’m Going Home,

01:00:13

and it featured, sang by Tim Curry,

01:00:15

and it featured an incredible gay,

01:00:18

outland straight legendary film,

01:00:20

The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

01:00:21

If you’ve never been to one of those shows,

01:00:24

you do not know what you’re

01:00:26

missing. Honestly, they’re incredible.

01:00:28

You don’t really get a chance to see much

01:00:30

of the show, much of the film, because you’re too busy

01:00:31

dodging items that people launch around the place

01:00:34

at different moments during the

01:00:36

production.

01:00:37

Like confetti and water and

01:00:40

bloody, there’s aliens running around

01:00:41

zapping each other with make-believe

01:00:44

laser guns and stuff.

01:00:45

It’s very good fun.

01:00:47

And that was a track when Tim Curry is on stage and he’s just about to get shot by this alien.

01:00:52

He’s an alien too.

01:00:53

They’re all bloody aliens, really.

01:00:54

Or S&M freaks and stuff.

01:00:56

It’s a great film.

01:00:57

And I love that.

01:00:57

It reminds me of some kind of Berlin cabaret kind of act.

01:01:01

You know, right at the end of the show, they’re winding things up

01:01:05

and just feeling kind of sad

01:01:07

and absolutely miserable and stuff.

01:01:09

But it’s done with class and etiquette

01:01:11

and I love it.

01:01:13

Alright, we’re going to play some more tracks

01:01:15

and then I’m going to get to some more emails

01:01:17

and then we’re going to wrap this show up.

01:01:19

So guys, check this out.

01:01:21

This is a few tracks actually that I adore.

01:01:24

The first track, again, is another cover by Nina Simone,

01:01:26

my favorite female artist.

01:01:28

It’s called Here Comes the Sun,

01:01:30

and we’re going to follow that with some Donovan,

01:01:32

and we’re going to follow that with some Pink Floyd.

01:01:40

Here comes the sun, little darling

01:01:44

Here comes the sun, little darling.

01:01:47

Here comes the sun.

01:01:51

I say, it’s all right.

01:01:56

01:02:03

Here comes the sun, little darling. Here comes the sun.

01:02:07

I say, it’s all right.

01:02:13

It’s all right.

01:02:19

Little darling, it’s been a long, cold and lonely winter.

01:02:27

Little darling, it feels like years since you’ve been here.

01:02:36

Here comes the sun, little darling.

01:02:40

Here comes the sun, I say.

01:02:44

It’s all right

01:02:46

It’s all right

01:02:51

Little darling, the smile will return to the faces now Little darling It seems like years

01:03:07

Since you’ve been here

01:03:10

01:04:14

It’s all right, little darling, here comes the sun Here comes the sun

01:04:28

I say, little darling

01:04:32

It seems like years have given

01:04:36

01:04:38

Here comes the sun

01:04:41

01:04:45

And I know that you care

01:09:47

For me too So I don’t feel alone

01:09:57

On the weight of the stone

01:10:00

Now that I’ve found

01:10:04

Somewhere safe To bury my bones

01:10:07

And any fool knows a dog needs a home

01:10:20

A shelter from pigs on the wing

01:10:27

That last track there was called Pigs on the Wing 2.

01:10:34

That’s a Pink Floyd track that features on their amazing album Animals.

01:10:39

Very much underrated by most people, but I really recommend that you check that out.

01:10:43

It’s beautifully made an

01:10:45

incredible incredible album um lots of long and psychedelic kind of style uh political and um you

01:10:53

know socially poignant music on that album and i do do recommend that to you strongly all right

01:10:59

01:11:05

everything that you’ve done for me and everything that you’re doing for the community, for psychedelic

01:11:10

thinkers all around the world. Honestly, I know that the impact that you and your show and all

01:11:17

of your work has done on the world and will continue to shape the world for for many many years to come and really much

01:11:25

01:12:14

01:12:19

blessing the west coast of the united states Queen Ninja is going to land

01:12:25

and of course chaos

01:12:27

and I want to try to

01:12:30

hook up with Lars as well man

01:12:31

and see what you have to down there in Kansas

01:12:33

guys it’s funny

01:12:35

someone said to me in an email

01:12:37

I can’t believe I’m going to so miss your voice

01:12:39

on these podcasts and stuff

01:12:42

well check this out

01:12:43

Queen Ninja’s voice

01:12:44

is being used as song bumpers

01:12:47

in this bloody incredible street-level concert

01:12:51

that Lars and his people are putting out.

01:12:54

My voice is also being used as mobile phone alert noises.

01:13:02

And various different technological wizardry things.

01:13:06

So, you know, you’ll probably be like on the bus or something

01:13:09

or in this library and somebody’s phone will go off

01:13:12

and it’s me laughing.

01:13:15

I can’t, what are the odds of this?

01:13:17

I don’t know.

01:13:19

Craziness.

01:13:21

All right, it’s almost time to wrap things up, guys.

01:13:23

I want to get to…

01:13:25

Actually, I’m not sure if I’m going to get to these emails,

01:13:27

to be honest with you.

01:13:28

I might just kind of talk nonsense at you for a bit.

01:13:33

It’s been a long journey for me on the Sounds of World Wide Weird.

01:13:36

When I first started it, I was full of nerves.

01:13:39

I really had no idea if it was going to be liked by people.

01:13:43

I had no idea if i could kind of pull it

01:13:45

off if i could select the music you know keep all this stuff going as well as maintaining a very

01:13:53

heavy cannabis use and all that stuff but i hope that you’ve enjoyed it i really do and i hope that

01:14:00

you kind of try to save as many of these songs and tracks and shows as you possibly can if you enjoy them.

01:14:06

And, you know, like I said, I’m not going anywhere.

01:14:08

The DJ night that we’re going to bring out once a month, excuse me, we’re going to,

01:14:14

I’m asking for people to put together their show of their own music-wise,

01:14:18

and we can share that with the people probably once a month.

01:14:21

That’s the kind of itinerary at the moment.

01:14:24

And we’ve got a very

01:14:25

very special dj guest coming very soon i’m going to hook up an interview with the incredible dj

01:14:30

that we’re going to share with a couple of sets that he’s put together for us especially

01:14:34

um to go out for the dolphin audience so you know you’re not getting rid of me for sure

01:14:40

and i know that i was talking with tink and a few other people in the Skype chat room

01:14:46

that we made

01:14:46

and somebody, I think it was Tink

01:14:48

has asked me

01:14:49

what about like a Christmas show

01:14:51

or something like that

01:14:52

like a special Christmas show

01:14:53

I think that’s fine

01:14:55

I think I’m going to have lots of time

01:14:57

to prepare for that one

01:14:58

so I’d love to put something together for you guys

01:15:00

and put that out there for you

01:15:02

no problem at all

01:15:03

but it’s been a long journey man really

01:15:06

really long journey thanks a lot to dope feed much love and congratulations for two years of

01:15:11

broadcasting incredible work incredible passion that you have and really spreading the good news

01:15:18

and spreading the important information as well i’ve learned so much from dope feed

01:15:23

over the last couple of years and i know everybody has done the same. So this, you know, incredible network.

01:15:30

Oh, Lefty, really, really incredible stuff that you’re doing as well, man. You’re putting

01:15:34

out music that I would never have thought of checking out. Incredible comedy. And, you

01:15:39

01:15:50

a regular basis unbelievably good guys if you haven’t heard i’m sure that you have but if you

01:15:56

01:16:03

feature that she’s got going on with a doctor kind of answering

01:16:06

questions that we post on the forum the grow report.com is incredible i’ve never heard anything

01:16:12

like it our very own resident doctor is in the house giving us the medical loadout of this stuff

01:16:20

man it’s great so guys check it out and i love it when hermit girl comes on hermit girl

01:16:26

much love to you man i love your place it’s spectacular and honestly you’re going to come

01:16:31

home one day and i’m going to be rummaging into the bushes and garden in the trees and stuff

01:16:36

outside like kind of lurking so don’t be shocked don’t don phone the police or something like that.

01:16:47

I’m not there for any problems.

01:16:51

And Psychonautica as well, Max Freaker,

01:16:54

which continues to impress everybody around the world. What an amazing show and what an amazing following that he’s getting, really.

01:16:59

Broadcasting the truth and the light

01:17:01

and lots of kind of philosophical debate on there.

01:17:03

Absolutely spectacular.

01:17:05

So the Dolphin.co.uk network is amazing.

01:17:08

I know that you know this.

01:17:10

And I’m not going too far.

01:17:13

I’m going to be kicking around the place and stuff.

01:17:15

So keep your eyes open and your ears peeled back for that.

01:17:19

Eels, I think I said.

01:17:20

If you have eels, make sure that they’re trained to listen.

01:17:27

Maybe put a bell around their little slippery necks or something.

01:17:29

They can ring it whenever a new show comes out.

01:17:32

I don’t know.

01:17:34

All right, this is Queer Ninja.

01:17:36

I’m out of here.

01:17:38

This has been the last episode of The Sounds of Worldwide Weed on dofine.co.uk.

01:17:43

I’m going to leave you with this track. It’s kind of

01:17:45

bittersweet but very happy

01:17:47

and that’s the way I feel about leaving this show.

01:17:50

This is a track called

01:17:51

Little Diddy Called

01:17:53

Happiness and it’s by an

01:17:55

incredible poet called Buddy Wakefield.

01:17:58

This has been Queer Ninja.

01:18:00

Thanks so much for listening.

01:18:01

Thanks for the love and throughout

01:18:03

the years, guys, I’m going to miss this regular appearance.

01:18:06

But like I said, I’m going to be lurking around.

01:18:08

So I hope that you send your love whenever you see me.

01:18:12

I’m out of here.

01:18:13

You have a fantastic however long it’s going to be.

01:18:17

And I’ll see you really soon.

01:18:19

That boy sits on…

01:18:21

Oh! That boy sits on a log, eating pie, drinking fog, playing fetch with a dog that just won’t run his way.

01:18:50

And his girl sits in a swing that won’t sway, singing songs about history, wonders why his vanity looks so good on me. Totally. You got to let go on everybody, doesn’t he? Mom and Pa, they’re calling all.

01:19:07

Saying get on down to your doctor’s mall.

01:19:10

He’s got a special on boobs and lips and butts and cake.

01:19:14

Oh, man.

01:19:17

Our cousins on the cellular phone.

01:19:20

Calling more talk shows for the folks at home.

01:19:23

Who’ve got opinions on solutions for the

01:19:26

problems that ain’t their own let’s hear it for the upper class killing winnie the pooh with the

01:19:36

molds they cast in this clash of titans that no longer remains in check because Superman is dead I’m so happy I can barely

01:19:50

think of the end

01:19:51

There’s a little ditty

01:19:56

called happiness

01:19:57

It says I’m gonna walk away

01:19:59

from this

01:20:00

Before I lose my masterpiece

01:20:04

to it I just

01:20:05

sketch again

01:20:06

and in the morning

01:20:09

when I rise if

01:20:11

everybody’s really being randomly

01:20:13

kind and if I can

01:20:15

feel as good as I do

01:20:18

tonight

01:20:18

I’m gonna walk away

01:20:23

from this with a little day called happiness

01:20:27

That’s right! That’s right, baby!

01:20:35

Religions pace the rats in this race

01:20:38

For a low-fat, succulent jumbo shake

01:20:41

While a man in the street like an old pile of meat Buying groceries from the local aluminum cannon We’ll be right back. Waves his hands, and Ma and Pa, they’re calling all, saying get on back to your doctor’s mall.

01:21:08

He’s got a special on computer chips for the brains in our kids.

01:21:15

While some drunk fool with a class at school is blowing sawdust off his power tools.

01:21:22

And he looks down a row of the dummies he’s created again and again. I don’t know why. A little ditty called happiness. It says I’m going to walk away from this.

01:21:45

Yeah.

01:21:46

Before I lose my masterpiece to an Etch-A-Sketch again.

01:21:53

And in the morning when I rise.

01:21:56

If they vacuum up the gun smoke out of the sky.

01:21:59

And if I can feel as good as I do tonight.

01:22:03

I can feel as good as I do tonight.

01:22:12

I’m going to walk away from this with a little ditty called happiness. Oh, yeah, that happiness.

01:22:23

I feel it.

01:22:24

I definitely feel that happiness Oh, my God. Thank you. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 And so we can end the day with a big smile on our faces. Here is Ron Schock telling what is, at least for me, the greatest dope story ever.

01:23:50

I’m going to tell you the world’s greatest dope story.

01:23:53

It happened in Australia.

01:23:54

The dope is marijuana.

01:23:56

Now, this story is not a pro-marijuana story.

01:23:59

I’m not saying that in any way, okay?

01:24:01

As a matter of fact, if you are anti-marijuana, the story will probably make you more

01:24:05

anti-marijuana. You’ll go, no, god damn,

01:24:07

that really is terrible shit. Nobody should ever do it,

01:24:10

okay? If you are pro-marijuana,

01:24:12

the story will probably make you

01:24:14

even more pro-marijuana.

01:24:16

But either way,

01:24:17

either way, at the end of the story,

01:24:20

you’re going to go, that’s the best

01:24:21

god damn story

01:24:23

I’ve ever heard

01:24:25

okay

01:24:27

this happens in 1961

01:24:29

1671

01:24:31

1971

01:24:33

I lived in Australia at this time

01:24:35

and I’m running British Printing over there

01:24:38

and I’m making so much money

01:24:39

that I get into rock music promotion

01:24:41

and between

01:24:43

69 and 71,

01:24:47

I bring Blood, Sweat & Tears to Australia. I brought Black Sabbath back when Ozzy Osbourne was their lead singer.

01:24:51

I brought The Kinks right up they did Low Run.

01:24:54

And, you know, I know it’s going to come as a surprise,

01:24:58

but a lot of the rock and roll people of late 60s and early 70s

01:25:01

smoked marijuana.

01:25:04

And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know.

01:25:09

Oh, shit!

01:25:10

I know, I know.

01:25:11

The president wanted to involve you.

01:25:12

I can’t believe it!

01:25:13

I know.

01:25:13

It’s true.

01:25:15

And in Australia in 1971,

01:25:18

marijuana was illegal.

01:25:21

However, anything a half a pound and under was considered to be for personal

01:25:28

consumption and therefore exempt from the law. Heaven, I’m in heaven.

01:25:42

Well, we get some good dope from all over the world, man, coming through that Sydney

01:25:46

heart.

01:25:47

We get it from Africa and Asia and Philippines and Southeast Asia.

01:25:53

My best friend gets married.

01:25:55

My best friend’s an American, and he marries a ballerina from the Sydney Royal Ballet Company.

01:26:01

And her mom and dad are so rich that they don’t know how much money they’ve got.

01:26:06

Their money goes back

01:26:07

centuries, okay?

01:26:10

And so the wedding of their daughter,

01:26:12

the ballerina of the Sydney

01:26:14

Royal Ballet Company,

01:26:16

is quite a big deal,

01:26:18

okay? I mean, you know, it’d be like

01:26:19

Madonna getting married over here, okay?

01:26:21

I mean, you know, it gets that

01:26:23

kind of press, you understand what I’m saying? And I mean, you know, it gets that kind of press. You understand what I’m saying?

01:26:26

And I mean, that wedding, it is the social event of the season.

01:26:31

And I’m the best man.

01:26:32

And my wife is the maid of honor.

01:26:35

And I’m straight.

01:26:37

It’s my best friend’s wedding.

01:26:39

I wouldn’t fuck it up, okay?

01:26:41

However, the story takes place at the reception.

01:26:46

And the wedding is over.

01:26:49

And it’s party time.

01:26:51

Now, we’re outside.

01:26:52

And first, I’ve got to set the scene.

01:26:53

They have a mansion that overlooks Sydney Harbor.

01:26:56

And, I mean, there’s, like, the mayor of Sydney is there.

01:27:00

Members of Parliament, which would be like the United States Senators, are there.

01:27:03

Members of the Supreme Court of Australia are there.

01:27:06

All these, you know, the ultra-rich are there.

01:27:09

The press is there.

01:27:11

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra string section is playing out of the veranda, okay?

01:27:16

I mean, this is a very fucking big one.

01:27:18

And I got long hair and a Fu Manchu mustache, and I’m dressed up in a tuxedo, right?

01:27:24

And we’re outside taking pictures

01:27:26

of each other because we’re never dressed

01:27:28

up, right? But for this big wedding,

01:27:30

they know we’re dressed up. And I’m straight.

01:27:32

And as I’m standing there taking pictures,

01:27:34

somebody hands me a marijuana

01:27:36

cigarette. My first of the

01:27:38

day, the story

01:27:39

officially begins.

01:27:47

Well,

01:27:48

by the time

01:27:50

I blow that smoke

01:27:52

back out,

01:27:54

I’m more stoned

01:27:56

than I’ve ever been in my life.

01:28:00

I mean, just immediately, man,

01:28:03

the ground is starting to move like this,

01:28:05

and people’s faces are like that, you know.

01:28:09

Whoa, man.

01:28:11

So like any good doper, I said, whose dope is that?

01:28:20

Where did that come from?

01:28:23

Somebody down at the end goes,

01:28:26

it’s Mike’s, the groom, my best friend.

01:28:32

So, like any good doper, I went off in search of Mike.

01:28:40

Mike, buddy, that is some good shit you got man i was yeah man doug and sue gave me an ounce of this

01:28:51

stuff it’s from nepal n-e-p-a-l nepal is a little country between india and china it’s where the

01:28:59

himalayan mountains are and in nepal marijuana has been legal for over 6,000 years of recorded

01:29:08

history. And for 6,000 years, those little Tibetan monks have been working on developing

01:29:16

a strain of marijuana that they consider to be spiritual.

01:29:29

They’re up there talking to God.

01:29:39

And my friend, my best friend, has an ounce of it.

01:29:51

So like any good dover, I said, Mike, goddamn, buddy, this is your wedding night.

01:29:59

You have married a beautiful, intelligent, artistic, rich woman who loves you.

01:30:05

This is the greatest party that I have ever seen in my life.

01:30:14

And you have in your possession, certifiably, the best dope in the whole world.

01:30:16

Let’s go get stoned.

01:30:21

Mike knows. good idea. So I go off and get my wife, Kathy,

01:30:27

and he goes off and gets his new wife, Dorothy,

01:30:30

and he gets Doug and Sue,

01:30:32

that’s the two people that gave him the dope to start with,

01:30:35

you know, fair is fair, okay?

01:30:37

And we slide out of the park.

01:30:40

And, you know, we go out their back,

01:30:43

and their back of their estate is like terraced down to the edge of Sydney Harbor.

01:30:49

And Sydney Harbor is very reminiscent of San Francisco back.

01:30:53

It has got the bridge going across, and, you know, it’s hilly, and, you know, so the city lights are, you know,

01:30:59

it’s very beautiful from, you know, this level.

01:31:02

And so the city’s over here, and the party’s going on up here

01:31:06

and six full-grown adult people who smoke a lot of dope at that time we rode one skinny little

01:31:17

toothpick number of that natalie’s way second hand of the number my wife in her formal dress hits the ground.

01:31:35

Here, give me that.

01:31:49

That’s some good shit, isn’t it?

01:31:55

Kathy goes, oh, wow.

01:32:01

Well, by the time the sixth of us have smoked this number,

01:32:05

we are all on the floor, okay, or on the ground. Now,

01:32:10

when I’m in this position in this story, I have collapsed underneath the tree, okay?

01:32:18

I am propped up in the tree, all right? And when I say I am fucked up, okay, my face has melted off of my skull, okay? It has melted down to about right out here. So words are like coming out around my belly button.

01:32:26

But they’re coming out.

01:32:31

You know, the ground is going up and down like this.

01:32:41

The tree is melting down on my head and musical notes are floating out

01:32:46

across the sky from the party up on the hill. Okay. I mean, I am, I am.

01:32:55

And we are all like that. I mean, we are all on the ground. We are just this close to comatose, okay? But we have managed to lay down with

01:33:07

our feet coming together in a point. And the reason we are laying like this is when you’re

01:33:13

this fucked up, you’ve got to be within double arm’s reach of one another. And if you expect

01:33:19

that shit to get back around to you, you have got to lie with your feet coming together in point.

01:33:27

Mutual cooperation leads to mutual benefit, okay?

01:33:33

When the money’s gone, only your knowledge gets you through, okay?

01:33:41

So there we are, ground going up and down, faces melting, voices coming out, notes floating out across the sky.

01:33:49

And like any good doper, I said, suck.

01:33:54

Dorothy, why don’t we roll up a number?

01:33:58

That is some good shit.

01:34:01

So we rolled the second number.

01:34:04

Took us a month.

01:34:08

Maybe a month and a half.

01:34:11

Really slow time down, okay?

01:34:24

We get the second number, Rob.

01:34:27

We start it around the circle.

01:34:30

The second hit of the second number, Mike, my friend, is laying to the right of me,

01:34:36

tries to get up.

01:34:37

He goes, Ronnie!

01:34:38

Oh, God damn, help me!

01:34:40

Oh, God, Ronnie, help me!

01:34:42

Oh, Jesus!

01:34:44

Oh, God!

01:34:42

Oh, God, Ronnie, help me.

01:34:42

Oh, Jesus.

01:34:44

Oh, God.

01:35:25

David falls face down in the middle of the circle. That’s something wrong with Mike.

01:35:29

He passed up his turn on the number, man.

01:35:32

So I crawl.

01:35:34

I crawl to my best friend.

01:35:36

I cannot stand up, okay?

01:35:38

I crawl on my hands and knees.

01:35:40

And I’m on my hands and knees when this happens,

01:35:42

but so that all of you can see me, I’ll just do it like this.

01:35:44

And Mike’s laying face down.

01:35:45

I go, Mike? Mike? Which, of course can see me I’ll just do it like this and Mike’s laying face down I go Mike Mike of course to me someone funny me Mike

01:36:05

and so I grab him and I roll him over

01:36:08

and his eyes are open

01:36:10

but they’re rolled up inside his head

01:36:12

his mouth’s open

01:36:14

his tongue’s hanging out

01:36:15

most gruesome thing

01:36:18

I’ve ever seen

01:36:19

I go Mike

01:36:22

god damn Mike

01:36:24

so I slap him, whack his head, boom, like that, and I hock him.

01:36:32

So I reach for the artery alongside his neck, and there is no pulse, man,

01:36:38

and I don’t know what to do, so I lift up, and I hit him as hard as I can around the heart.

01:36:44

Wham!

01:36:45

His body jerked.

01:36:47

Whoa, look at this.

01:36:49

And nothing, man.

01:36:51

And so I start artificial.

01:36:53

I go…

01:36:54

Nothing.

01:37:00

I turn to Dorothy, his wife, of about four hours.

01:37:05

And I go, Mike’s dead.

01:37:10

And Dorothy says, oh, wow.

01:37:18

What a bummer.

01:37:23

So I lay back down, okay?

01:37:27

I don’t know what to do, and I’m too fucked up to do anything anyway.

01:37:31

So we’re all just laying there looking at the body, right?

01:37:35

Oh, wow.

01:37:38

And about this time, Dorothy’s mother comes out at the party up on the hill, okay, going, Mike, Dorothy,

01:37:48

it’s time for your speeches. Mike, Dorothy, we’re going, oh, what? Mike, Dorothy, it’s

01:38:02

time for your, Oh, my.

01:38:06

She sees us way down there.

01:38:07

She’s coming down and says,

01:38:08

Is that you?

01:38:09

Is that you?

01:38:10

We’re going,

01:38:12

Oh, wow.

01:38:14

Is something wrong?

01:38:16

Oh, my God.

01:38:18

Oh, something’s wrong.

01:38:20

Oh, help.

01:38:21

Help.

01:38:21

Call the doctor.

01:38:23

Oh, my God.

01:38:24

Oh, my God. And people start streaming out of this fucking party

01:38:26

and running down the hill towards us.

01:38:27

We’re going, oh, wow.

01:38:31

I mean, it’s a posse, okay?

01:38:36

I’m a foreigner in a foreign land,

01:38:39

and there is a dead man in my face,

01:38:42

and I’m too fucked up to get away, okay?

01:38:46

Whatever is going to happen,

01:38:47

I’m going to watch while

01:38:49

melting underneath the tree,

01:38:51

okay? Going, oh,

01:38:54

wow.

01:38:55

And Mike’s dad, who has

01:38:57

come all the way from the U.S.

01:39:00

for his only

01:39:01

son’s wedding, is the first

01:39:03

one on the group.

01:39:08

He goes, my son is dead of a drug overdose and I want these five people arrested for murder.

01:39:13

We’re going, oh, wow.

01:39:17

And about this time, a doctor pushes his way through.

01:39:20

He’s got a stethoscope on and he shoves everybody in

01:39:22

and he leans over Mike, and Mike sets up.

01:39:26

He goes, somebody want me to give a speech?

01:39:35

If I’d been there when Jesus rose Lazarus, I could not have been more surprised, okay?

01:39:41

My heart’s going boom, boom.

01:39:41

surprise, okay?

01:39:44

My heart’s going boom, boom!

01:39:45

And Mike stands up and walks up the

01:39:48

hill and takes everybody

01:39:49

with him, except the

01:39:52

five of us.

01:39:53

We’re still laying underneath these

01:39:55

trees going, oh

01:39:58

wow!

01:40:01

And

01:40:01

like any good doper,

01:40:09

I said, hey Dorothy, why don’t we roll up another one?

01:40:12

I’m Ron Schott.

01:40:20

You’re listening to The Psychedelic Salon, where people are changing their lives one thought at a time.

01:40:26

And for now, this is Lorenzo kicking back with a little cannabis here at the end of 4-20-20-20 in the Psychedelic Salon. Namaste, my friends.
